*Still a Work In Progress*
Barnacle Phil's is the definition of an island restaurant. Located on North (Upper) Captiva Island in Florida, the only way to reach Barnacle Phil's is by boat. It is a hard place to miss located right in the harbour which provides protected docking for your boat on the large docks. Barnacle Phil's itself is located in an old cracker style house foot steps from the water. Outdoor seating and air conditioned indoor seating is available. Catering to the local tastes with fresh seafood such as Conch Fritters, Shrimp, and fish any way you like Barnacle Phil's will satisfy your seafood cravings. But those not in the mood for seafood do not fear, many other items complete are menu including Phil's famous Black Beans and Rice, Salads, Hamburgers, and, the kids favorite, Chicken Fingers! Barnacle Phil's received its name from its original creator in the 1980s, Phil Kinsey, who was the original private land owner of much of the island that today is made up of island homes. The island of North Captiva is located just off the coast from Pine Island and the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area. At one time it was simply the island of Captiva, but in 1921 a hurricane split the island and North Captiva was born. Since no bridge has ever been built to connect North Captiva and Captiva, the island of North Captiva remains an oasis that many never get to experience. Most of the island in fact is a state park with lush pine forests and large prestine beaches. In 2004 the Island was struck badly by Hurricane Charley, a category 4 hurricane. Charley hit North Captiva directly and it was classified as the first place Charley made land fall. Charley caught the Captiva area off gaurd as it was expected to make landfall to the north in the Tampa area. 100% of the buildings and homes on North Captiva were damaged and much of the vegetation was blown down. Since Charley the island has made a very quick and beautiful recovery. Most of the vegetation has returned and most of the homes and buildings have been rebuilt or restored. North (Upper) Captiva is a beautiful island oasis that everyone should see at least once in their lifetime (although many continue to come back to!). Barnacle Phil's is the sand dollar in the beach that is North Captiva showing what an authentic island dining experience is like.
