When we set out to bring a new restaurant to North Coventry, all we knew was that the community deserved something different. There are plenty of places to grab a decent bite or have a drink, but we know that “our people” want to spend their time somewhere they can count on a fun, fresh experience. That’s why we decided to create a truly exciting destination for amazing food, hand-crafted cocktails, and live entertainment.

Where it all began
Long before Big Phil’s came to the community, there was Ice House. At a time when the community was left behind in the post-steel production era of the late 80s, the Bolinger family took a chance by bringing a new eatery to the heart of Pottstown. A local shop called Conway’s that was once a true “ice house” gave way to a quickly-beloved community staple honoring the original namesake.
Our owner Phil is proud to have roots in the North Coventry community and to continue his family’s tradition of doing things better here at Big Phil’s.
About the Experience
Meet Big Phil
While pursuing a traditional education, our owner Phil Bolinger never expected he would one day become a restauranteur. Throughout his college years, though, he quickly gained an appreciation for the industry while working at steakhouses across Boston. The high-level execution of a city steakhouse spoke to Phil, and he developed a fascination with perfecting a superior dining experience.
Phil later brought his passions home to North Coventry after earning his degree. He spent years transitioning from learning the craft to honing his skills at Ice House, then teaching others as a manager. Eventually, Phil felt inspired to channel all that he had learned into a new venture. That’s when the idea for Big Phil’s was born.

The Big Phil's space provided the perfect blank slate for Phil to bring his vision to life. With full creative freedom, he and the team worked tirelessly on renovations to create a restaurant, bar and outdoor patio for you to enjoy with friends and family.

Whether you visit our dining room, bar, or outdoor patio, he’s sure to stop by your table and chat about the experience whenever he can. For Phil, seeing folks enjoy the food, friends and fun is what it’s all about!
Lloyd Griscom
Chef Lloyd got his start on the line at Ice House where he became an expert at the execution of fresh and delicious made-to-order meals. After years as part of the Ice House family, Phil knew he could trust Lloyd to take the reins on bringing you a full menu of truly amazing Gastropub-style food.
Susan Bolinger
Also known as “Mom,” Susan has long served the North Coventry community with her delicious homemade desserts. She hung up her apron for a while after years of making pastries for Ice House, but now she’s back in the kitchen whipping up new creations and classic favorites for Big Phil’s!
